BIOGRAPHY

Born into a family with deep musical traditions in Ghent, Belgium, with Colombian and Russian descent, Pablo Laporev’s passion for music became evident from a young age. He began his cello studies under the guidance of his father, Ilia Laporev Sr., and the renowned Belarusian pedagogue Vladimir Perlin, while also learning the fundamentals of cello playing with the esteemed Belgian teacher Hans Mannes.

Pablo’s musical education led him to the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, where he studied as a precollege student with France Springuel and Justus Grimm. Seeking greater refinement, he continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, Germany, where he was mentored by the celebrated cellists Maria Kliegel and Johannes Moser. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree at the prestigious Mozarteum University in Salzburg, under the guidance of Giovanni Gnocchi.

Throughout his journey, Pablo has participated in masterclasses with some of the world’s most renowned cellists, including Jérôme Pernoo, Gustav Rivinius, Troels Svane, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Paolo Bonomini, and Gautier Capuçon. His artistry has been recognized through notable achievements such as receiving a scholarship from the Villa Musica program in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, and winning 3rd Prize at the International Cello Competition VŠMU in Bratislava, Slovakia.

As a soloist, Pablo has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Cappella Istropolitana Chamber Orchestra and the Radio Slovak Symphony Orchestra. He is acclaimed for his expansive sonority, heartfelt musicality, and meticulous attention to detail. His versatility allows him to deliver captivating performances across a broad spectrum of styles, from Baroque masterpieces to contemporary works.

Chamber music also plays an essential role in Pablo’s artistic life. He has worked and studied with esteemed musicians such as Harald Schoneweg, Ralph Manno, Anthony Spiri, Connie Shih, and Pavel Gililov.

Pablo currently performs on a 1915 cello crafted by Dante Baldoni, a family heirloom passed down from his father, complemented by a Charles Louis Bazin bow from around 1930.
